Instructor Bio:
Katie has worked with children and adults with hearing loss for over 12 years. She received a Master in Speech Pathology with a specialization in auditory-verbal therapy and cochlear implants from the University of South Carolina in 2012. She received her Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification through the Alexander Graham Bell Academy in 2017. Katie has worked at M Health Fairview as a member of the adult and pediatric cochlear implant team since June 2015.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

- Describe 2 different ways an audiologist can test a child’s hearing.
- Describe two differences between hearing aids and cochlear implants.
- Describe cochlear implant candidacy guidelines for children and adults.
- List auditory milestones in children up to 4 years of age.
- List and describe the four levels in Erber’s Hierarchy.
- List five different goals that can be addressed with pediatric patients with hearing loss during therapy sessions.
- Describe four auditory learning strategies to use with patients with hearing loss during therapy sessions.
- Describe two types of assessments to complete with adults during an aural rehabilitation evaluation.
- List two red flags that suggest amplification may not be working appropriately.
